Blood is being collected into several tubes with different additives. Why does the order in which they are filled matter?

What this type asks

Fourteen questions across a domain the outline itself defines by breadth: microbiology, serology, cytology, haematology, urinalysis and parasitology, all named in a single task statement. Rather than six subjects to memorise, treat it as one question asked six ways — what does this sample need between the patient and the result, and what would invalidate it? Handling, preparation, labelling and documentation come first; the tests themselves second; and the maintenance and quality assurance of the equipment third, which the outline lists as its own task because a machine nobody has controlled produces numbers that look exactly like results. The examinable instinct is scepticism about a value before it is acted on.

Frequently asked

How many laboratory procedures questions are on the VTNE?
14. The blueprint in force publishes an item count for every content area, and it gives Laboratory Procedures 9% of the paper — 14 of the 150 scored questions (9%). The full-length test on this site deals that number rather than an even share.
Is this section timed?
Not on this page. These sets are for learning the material — each answer comes with an explanation straight away. When you want the whole paper, the full-length test runs the published clock. The real sitting is 170 questions in 180 minutes.
Are these real questions from the test?
No. Every question here is original, written to the published format. The real item banks are confidential and nobody outside the publisher has them.
