Why does more than one method exist for calculating heart rate from a tracing?

What this type asks

The smallest of the three domains, and the one people mean when they say "EKG practice test". Twenty-four scored items: calculating the rate, judging whether the rhythm is regular, measuring the intervals and inspecting the waveforms, recognising the major families of arrhythmia and the marks a pacemaker leaves, spotting the changes associated with ischaemia, injury and infarction, and — the task that outranks all the others — taking appropriate action when what is on the screen is life-threatening. It is a quarter of the paper and it is worth exactly a quarter of your revision.

Calculate the patient’s heart rate from the tracingDetermine the regularity of the patient’s heart rhythm from the tracingMeasure intervals and waveforms (e.g. PR interval, QRS duration, QT interval)Inspect waveform characteristics (P waves, QRS complexes, ST segments, T waves) for symmetry, direction and amplitudeIdentify arrhythmias (sinus, atrial, ventricular, junctional, heart blocks) from the tracingRecognise pacemaker spikes on a tracingIdentify ischaemia, injury and infarction on a tracingTake appropriate action when life-threatening arrhythmias are identified

Now do it with the clock running.

Frequently asked

How many analysis and interpretation questions are on the EKG exam?
24. NHA states an item count for every area of the plan and never states a percentage, so 24 is the document's own figure — 24 of the 100 scored questions — and not a share this site worked out. The full-length test deals exactly that many from this area.
Is this section timed?
Not on this page. These sets are for learning the material — each answer comes with an explanation straight away. When you want the whole paper, the full-length test runs the published clock. The real sitting is 100 questions in 120 minutes.
Are these real questions from the test?
No. Every question here is original, written to the published format. The real item banks are confidential and nobody outside the publisher has them.
